Student Led Teaching Awards
SLTA Project Partners Selected
After some difficult deliberation, NUS and the Higher Education Academy are pleased to announce the names of 21 unions that they will be working with during the current year to support the creation of student-led teaching awards this year.
The selection panel was taken aback by both the quality and quantity of applications, and several difficult decisions had to be made. But we are delighted with the representative spread of the partners, and what they have planned already to recognise and reward great teaching at their institutions.

Helen Thomas, Head of Teacher Excellence at the Higher Education Academy and Chair of the Selection Panel, said: “”We were delighted to receive so many high quality applications to join the teaching awards initiative. The level of interest in the project suggests just how much excitement there is in the sector around what student-led teaching awards can and will achieve. We feel the group selected represents a wide variety of institution type, location, outlook and experience in the sector, and we look forward to working in partnership with all of them.”
Usman Ali, Vice-President (Higher Education) at the National Union of Students, said “we’re really looking forward to supporting these unions to let students have their say in recognising and rewarding great teaching. We would like to see student-led teaching awards in every university and that these are used to drive improvements in teaching. We’re hoping that this project will demonstrate that student-led teaching awards can have a positive impact at any union, regardless of institution type, size or location.”
